Book Review: “Tattooing Violet” by R.T. Mitchell

By Mary Menzel: R.T Mitchell has taken the issue of child abuse and presented it in a unique and imaginative way. The reader is presented with a dysfunctional family living in a small town whose’ inhabitants don’t like “outsiders”. The town members vocalize their dislike of racial differences and skin art but turn a blind eye toward child abuse and neglect. When one child brings to the surface of another childs’ skin all the atrocities that have occurred in their home, the community finally has no choice but to acknowledge the truth. By presenting this subject through the guise of tattooing it is more likely that teenagers and young adults who are dealing with these issues are more likely to pick up the book, ingest the meaning and make the first step toward their problems and work toward a resolution.
