| By Mary Menzel: Mass destruction from consecutive hurricanes causing endless piles of decaying corpses. Viruses and bacteria mutating and causing infections not previously seen and no treatable. This is a very relevant book for our times. Imagine the mass chaos, unprecedented situations, panic and unavoidable death of loved ones that took place during the Black Plague. Now imagine all of these things happening today. Joe McKinney has a sharp command of words. With lines such as “pulling innocent people from their cars like chunks of meat from a can” the reader can vividly see all the events as they take place and feel the urgency, the panic and the sheer terror that the characters feel. But you know the scariest thing about this work of fiction? It could easily be the front page story in our newspapers tomorrow. |
